Hidralia, model of water efficiency and commitment in Marbella

This morning, Carlos Corral, head of the company, presented Hidralia Marbella Sustainability, a plan that includes 65 actions that are already under way or will be implemented in the city in the next two years

Hidralia has been in Marbella for 25 years and has been innovating ever since, each day designing new plans and actions to improve the quality of life of those who live in Marbella and its surroundings.

Hidralia, model of water efficiency and commitment in Marbella

This is a comprehensive plan that Hidralia will develop until 2020, with the aim of continuing beyond this date. The target is to manage all actions associated with sustainable development that are expected to be implemented in the city during this period.

The plan distinguishes three clearly defined areas of action: ‘People’, ‘Planet’ and ‘Shared Value’, whose objectives are marked by efficiency in water management, care for the environment, good use of water, and commitment to improving the quality of life of Marbella’s inhabitants.

The first of the areas, ‘People’, focuses on social commitment in relation to service provision, with measures such as the social fund that last year allocated €93,037 to cover the water bills of Marbella families who could not pay, or the €69,457 invested in various social actions undertaken in Marbella with local associations. Another notable action is the Corporate Volunteering Programme, with actions such as the collection of food for families who have no resources, or the campaign ‘Aqualogía’, to inform school children about the management of the complete water cycle.

In ‘Shared Value’ actions, ethics and transparency are prioritised, as well as socially responsible investments or innovation. In the Sustainable Development Report, the company accounts for all its actions in the city over the last year.

The ‘Planet’ area includes actions designed to manage water resources more responsibly and minimise waste. Efficient management of water resources is a priority objective of sustainability plan’s actions in Marbella. In this area, Hidralia has saved over 1,5 hm3 in the last five years, which is equivalent to the annual consumption of a city of 32,877 inhabitants.

Innovation projects have also contributed particularly to care of water as a resource. In partnership with the Cetaqua Andalusia Technology Centre, six projects have been promoted in the areas of efficient management of water resources.

Regarding energy efficiency, Hidralia has made investments to improve the water distribution network, leading to energy savings of 97,333 kWh in the last months of 2017. In addition, work has continued to replace the fleet of standard vehicles with electric vehicles, within a reasonable period.

In short, the aim of the plan is to transform Marbella into a city that is a model of sustainability and responsible water management.

With these aims, Hidralia has also made a commitment to a new communication approach, as well as an updated and more modern image. Hidralia is an environmental company that is concerned with water saving and efficiency. It is a witness to and forms part of the transformation of Marbella, which is why:

We are Water. We are Marbella.

Hidralia, committed to you.

Under the new communication plan, throughout the year campaigns and communication activities will take place that are directly related to the company’s values: awareness, efficiency, sustainability, and commitment..

One of these actions will be ‘Marbella in Images’. As Corral explains, it is ‘a photographic competition in collaboration with the City Council in which we aim to obtain evidence of Marbella’s transformation in images, with the help of the people of Marbella’.

Those interested just have to send an image of Marbella taken prior to 2005. Upload it to marbellaenimagenes.com and share it with your contacts on social media networks. The 25 photographs that get the most votes will go through to the grand final, in which a jury appointed by Hidralia will decide the three winning photos. The first prize is €500, the second prize €300, and the third prize €150.

In addition, a professional photographer will reproduce each of the 25 photographs that receive the most votes. Then, the old photograph will be combined with the new one, to obtain 25 photomontages that reflect the past and present of Marbella.
