Hydralia strengthens san Fernando sewer system cleanup so it's ready for upcoming rainy season

After the Alarm State intensifies the work to make the imborns of the town to the maximum of their hydraulic capacity

The City Council of San Fernando and Hidralia, the concessionaire of the drinking water and sewerage service in San Fernando, have started the campaign to strengthen the imborns of the municipality for the next period of autumn rains. During the Alarm State, work (which was carried out with all health and hygiene measures to ensure the safety of employees) focused on dealing with incidents, repairing breakdowns, performing corrective checks and maintenance of the Wastewater Pumping Stations (EBAR), corrective cleaning of the duty grilles, as well as repairs of service infrastructure that could cause accidents. In these weeks the pace of work has been normalized, taking up the usual campaign to strengthen cleaning and preventive maintenance of the sewerage network of the town.

This campaign, which is carried out periodically, makes the sewers as much as possible from their hydraulic capacity to transport the fallen water and avoid possible damage.

In accordance with the Maintenance and Cleaning Plan of the Sewerage System of the city of San Fernando for this year, during the months of July, August and, especially September, the intensive cleaning of the bribes and sewerage networks of the city will be carried out. These actions complement those carried out throughout the year, in which the more than 7,500 imborns available to the city are cleaned and preventive and corrective maintenance of the pumping stations are carried out.

In this campaign, special attention is being paid to the cleanliness of the most critical areas of the city. These include the networks of San Onofre and San Marcos, the road of La Carraca, the bridge of the Great Power and the Sale of Vargas, as well as the Bazán, Pery Junquera or the Callejón de la Marina, among others.

Continued cleaning work

The City Council and Hydralia have replanned their maintenance plan for the cleaning of registration wells and sewerage networks to try to ensure the optimal functioning of the sanitation system of the city of San Fernando in the face of the next autumn rains. With regard to the cleaning of imborns, more than 7,500 will be carried out, in addition to repairing damaged record and bribery wells.

In addition, the Maintenance and Cleaning Plan also includes the 16 wastewater pumping stations in San Fernando, whose mission is to drive these to the sewage treatment plant. Thus since the beginning of the year, the main pumping stations of the city are periodically cleaned, such as Venta de Vargas, Pery Junquera, Zaporito, Milagrosa and San Carlos, so that they are fully operational for autumn.

Within this planning, the cleaning and maintenance of the canals of the facilities existing in the city, mainly those located in the area of Parque del Oeste, Parque de Fire and Carretera de la Carraca, is particularly important. To do this, it will be systematically cleared and cleaned to facilitate at all times the evacuation of stormwater that reaches them, thus minimizing the risk of flooding in case of heavy rains.

In this sense, it is recalled that improper use of the sewerage systems of the houses can cause breakdowns and situations of danger in the general sewerage system of the city. These inappropriate uses include flushing through the toilet of wet bath wipes, which end up forming traffic jams in sewer networks or pumping stations, seriously endangering the operation of the general water evacuation system.

In addition, an increase in the networks of elements such as gloves or masks, which are used for prevention against covid-19, which ends up in the sewers by not discarding in the correct way has been detected. In this way from the City Council and Hydralia the indications of different agencies such as the Ministry of Health are urged, remembering that such waste should not be flushed either by the toilet or in the streets, since they will eventually end up in the sewer system or in the wild. According to the recommendations, the general container should be disposed of without exceptional measures if they have been used by persons without Covid-19. However, if the gloves and masks have been worn by people affected by the virus, the need to deposit this waste in a plastic bag, inside a second garbage bag, which is located in a different bin than the rest of the waste is collected.
