Roquetas de Mar, a model of sustainability in water management

In the last two years, the volume of water extracted from the Poniente Almeriense aquifer has been reduced by over 10 million m3, equivalent to the total water consumption in Roquetas for a year.

Hidralia has reduced the volume of water extracted from the Poniente Almeriense by 10 million m3, thanks to a major effort in innovation and installing new technologies that improve efficiency in the supply network. A big part of the success was due to the introduction of desalinated water last year, which has also noticeably improved the flavour, colour and quality of the supplied water.

All this has produced significant results: in the last two years, supplied water has been reduced by over one billion litres a year, despite the increase in the number of inhabitants and visitors in the town.

Two Hidralia operators look for leaks with helium gas on the seafront in Roquetas de Mar. One of them has a listening helmet and the other device to find water under the ground.
