Roquetas achieves savings of 85,000 m3 thanks to the leak plan promoted by Hidralia

The application of new technologies has allowed the rapid location of water leaks and their repair

Hidralia, a concessionaire company for the Roquetas de Mar municipal water supply and sewerage service, has been applying new technologies for years to prevent water loss in the network, a task that it carries out continuously and which has intensified in recent years. . Thanks to this intensive leak search program, Hidralia has managed to detect and repair leaks, which have saved 85,000 m3 of water.

Many of these leaks cannot be located by simply observing leaks or high consumption, but rather were detected thanks to the application of different innovative systems that Hidralia implements to optimize the efficiency of the network.

Among these methods, the following stand out: the detection of leaks through injections of helium gas (a harmless gas for human consumption, which does not alter the organoleptic properties of the water and reduces the environmental impact thanks to its effectiveness), which accurately indicates leaks , saving time and resources in repairs; as well as the search for leaks through ultrasound that identifies the characteristic noise that produces a leak in the network that runs through the subsoil.

The remote control and the sectorization of the network, also allows a quick location of the faults and their repair with the minimum incidents in the population.

Promote responsible consumption

In addition to the application of digital solutions, Hidralia also promotes responsible use of water among the population with awareness and awareness campaigns, which have been reinforced in the last year due to the scarcity of the resource.

One of the measures recently implemented has been the campaign 'Without water, life is complicated', which through very illustrative and visual messages shows how daily tasks can be affected by the lack of water. These messages are accompanied by a series of tips on the responsible use of water divided into different spaces in a home.

Thus, in the kitchen recommendations are collected such as turning off the tap while soaping the dishes, putting the dishwasher on when it is fully loaded or rinsing the fruit in a container. For the bathroom there are indications such as not having the tap open while brushing your teeth, collecting water in a container while the water is heating to use it for irrigation or installing economizing systems.

In the garden, check for possible leaks, avoid using the hose to clean or avoid watering during the sunniest hours so that there is no evaporation. In the case of having a swimming pool, the need to cover it to prevent evaporation is exposed, to have adequate maintenance so that it does not get lost or to install automatic push buttons if there are outdoor showers.

On the other hand, Hidralia has carried out the Aqualogy program for years during the school year in various schools in the town. This initiative aims to show schoolchildren the importance of water and caring for the environment through interactive activities and games. In addition, the natural and urban water cycle is made known in a fun way, so that behaviors of saving, consumption and responsible use of such an important but scarce resource are reinforced.

In the current school year there have been 643 minors who have completed this particular training in their respective schools.
