Climate neutrality

Hidralia achieves carbon neutrality

At Hidralia, we are leaders in the fight against climate change and are committed to a management model based on the circular economy. For years, we have been calculating and reducing our carbon footprint, finally achieving complete carbon neutrality throughout Andalusia.

This has all been possible thanks to reducing our emissions and participating in offsetting projects for those we cannot reduce. At Hidralia, we have undertaken significant work and effort at all our facilities to calculate, reduce, and offset our emissions, and we remain firmly committed to the circular economy and energy self-sufficiency, a commitment recognized with the Andalusian Regional Government's Environment Award in the Climate Change category in 2020.

We have been working for years to reduce our carbon footprint and achieve our goal of Zero Emissions. To this end, we have been working on several fronts, such as energy and water efficiency, to reduce energy consumption in processes directly related to our operations; the generation of green energy leading to self-sufficiency; and the purchase of green energy from renewable or sustainable sources for those we are unable to produce ourselves.

Furthermore, we have successfully changed the paradigm in our wastewater treatment model, promoting the circular biofactory model in all our wastewater treatment plants. This means zero energy consumption, zero waste, and 100% reuse of treated water.

We have calculated and registered our carbon footprint for 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020 with the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITERD). The project began over a decade ago and has culminated in the neutralization of our 2020 carbon footprint; scope 1 and 2 emissions, which refers to direct emissions, mainly from processes related to our activity and the consumption of our vehicle fleet, and indirect emissions, produced by electricity consumption.
